.... Today I woke up in my bed in Ilmenau and Sydney seems like a dream to me - far away, unreachable .... luckily all your mails reminding me that it was real!
Uploading the pictures from the farewell party was close to torture especially so I was listening to Powderfinger.
But there is also joy .. seeing my friends and family here, having central heating (it's colder than in Sydney :), sleeping in my own queen size bed and today my flatmate will be back and we will cook very nice german food, I had 'normal' bred ....
Good old germany is pretty occuping at the moment, so please don't be upset with me while waiting for an answer of me - I try to hurry ...... :) ... miss u all ...

... and Tony please write english - I can't understand your google-german :)

 23-04-04

.... I'm the happiest girl in the world today - I saw the glorious Cat Empire in the Metro Theatre in Sydney yesterday!
This guys from Melbourne know how to make a good party .... shake your body all night long :) ....
And I think I will try something new in my life as a student@ilm: I will buy the CD - YES, it is it worth ....
But although this nice evening had a dark side - in exactly 1 month is my plane leaving *ahhhhh* .... back to germany, back to ilmtown. I think I will miss a lot of Sydney and I think I will be happy to see all the folks of germany again .... so be prepared! *lol*

 something about me ...

good cook, but horrible host
a storyteller, but I'm not listening
free in mind, but stuck up with my ignorance
smart, but not enough for the worlds simplest rules
happy, but often so sad
heartbreaker, but never been in love

..... yeah .... ähm .... I know these irish and english and scotish guys hanging around every night in the PorterHouse: the pub with the best guiness in entire Sydney. So and every Tuesday is a Trivia Night (Quiz Night) goning on ..... and this week we won it the first time and the guys trying it since they are arrived here - so some month! We used the 50 Dollar bar tab for the next round of guiness *jam* ........

 14-03-04

.... this whole weekend was actually very irish. Yesterday Ray's birthdayparty in the Porterhouse and the O'Mallys and today the big Paddys Parade - okay ..... it wasn't this awesome. But hanging around in Hyde Park the whole day afterwards was the perfect cure for our hung-over ..... 5pm we decided that we could maybe have one or two beers to not differ this much from the drunk people ... äh ... Irish all around us. There occurred the problem: those guys are bloody alkoholics - the 2 closest bottleshops to the Hyde Park were sold out! Believe me ..........

 11-03-04

.... *juhu* ..... I feel like an underdog in Sydney now!
Yesterday I went with Jay - a very nice Aussi, maybe the only one I really know! - to the side on cafe. Actually more because I was to lazy this day to queue at another bar, but hey ..... this funk jazz gig was fucking amazing ..... and very great athmosphere, nice food & wine. A must do for Jazzlovers visiting Sydney! And then u will maybe see there Jay with his Band playing ........ :-) .....

 08-03-04

.... there is something weird going on in paradise: the half of my time is over ..... ya that's scary too, but it's not what I mean in the moment .... When the first excitement of discovering all this new (.. this is not Ilmenau and needs some times, especially if u have to work during the week!) is over, then u find out that u have the same problems, nuisance of people & happenings as u had home .... exactly the same sadness, boredom, loathing .....
Is this normal? Is it good that I haven't change at all in Down Under?
Anyway ..... something is different from home: here it is much faster flown away: at the next party, on the beach, a nice bbq/dinner, over the next beer ... *gg* ....

 04-03-04

 ..... juhu ..... I had a crazy night yesterday!
In Sydney there is a group of partly freaked out people, who meet twice a week for an inofficial skate-night. Everybody is welcome to take part of it and so I went there with Jay and Daniel (another german!) ...... and had a lot of fun - and just got a grazed arm! We skated through Hyde Park, the CBD, Circular Quay (with an amazing view on the opera ....) and then down to Darling Habour ..... where I met the wall ;-) ..... a must-do for all skaters visiting Sydney!

 25-2-04

... some people say that Sydney is crying with persons on the day they have to leave back home. So there was a heavy thunderstorm when Lydia left and there was rain when Enno and Carsten left too. And today, the day of Juliens departure, it hasn't stopped raining for 3 days and the forecast gives not really hope for improvement over the next days! Sydney seems to miss this guy very much ..... but it's actually not fair to send us such a fucking weather! What can you do in paradise when it is raining all day?
First option: work all day in my fridge office (which has no window!) and imagine that it will be hot outside when I'm finished .... but I think this isn't working well, because I will be really disappointed in the evening when I see the rain!
Next option: working also all night until your eyes fall close every few seconds - so you will not see the rain when you're leaving the building! ..... I'm not sure if I like that ..... :-(
Last option: get a handsome guy and snuggle with him in a nice bed - definitivly the greatest solution! ...... if I had somebody ..... I will go on searching ...... like everytime ......

... to be continued .....
 12-1-04

... were playing yesterday in the Basement, maybe the Best Jazz Club in Sydney! But not very easy affordable for poor students ..... :) .... but if u know the girl working on the entrance counter, than u can have a very good night down there! Especially with Enno and Carsten and BYO alkohol in a nightclub ..... don't ask! ;) ....

 8-1-04

Here in Sydney the Festival Summer has started ..... and yesterday I went with Carsten - another german guy - to the Flickerfest in the Bondi Pavillion. Not the best shortfilm festival on earth, but the half of the movies were very entertaining. During the boring films u can at least watch the stars above u .... ;) ....

 1-1-04

I celebrated a typical touri-new-years-eve-in-sydney ..... what not means that is was bad. It's just that I would prefer to have a good party than the same fireworks as every year for my next time here - who knows ;-) .........
So our crowd of germans went to Macquaries Chair very early in the morning (allright, we joined around 10 ..... ) to get the best places in front of this peninsula with a great view over the habour, opera and bridge. And there we had our picnic and some drinks ..... *hust* which we had to smuggle in :-) ..... this was actually the biggest fun.
Unfortunantly my stomach was not in the best state this day - I was never this sober on New Years Day! But it was in Sydney ..... so that it wasn't boring at all ..... and ended on sunrise on Bondi Beach ......

 26-12-03

Merry Christmas to everyone! ..... right this is not a normal christmas picture - but this was exactly my problem in these days: How to get Christmas spirit, when it is bloody hot outside?
On the 24th I was invited to a bbq in Bondi and just the small plush Santa Claus on my skirt reminds me that it is Christmas Day.
But then on the 25th I went to Bondi Beach ..... it was packed! But it was the biggest Christmas Party I have ever seen in my entire life ..... most of the people there had a small Christmas tree (a plastic one, for sure) and I felt a bit ineptly dressed, because I hadn't a christmas hat or other christmas decorations on. And the Aussies did there favourite freetime occupation: picnic/bbq with family & friends ( .. they do this when ever it is possible!) ...... It was the first time in this year I felt like Christmas - it's just sunburned Christmas *gg* .......

 13-12-03

..... but never ever miss this place: I found out that the best cinema in Sydney is just 5 min walk from my place! It's a small indian, vegetarian restaurant combined with a showroom for only good movies. Now comes the special thing: u re not sitting there and after the half u don't know how to sit comfortably - no u re lying there very relaxed on a futon, but don't watch boring film .... u will fall asleep, for sure :-)

 10-12-03

Around this time I started working - or in December more searching for a topic to work on - at UTS, University of Technologie, Sydney.
There I met the Beer-Brigade: 4 guys from Belgium .... Sam, Xavier, Ben and Francois who is unfortunatly not on this picture.
They always forced me to go to Scubar on mondays ;-) ...... but they didn't send me the pictures yet. So I can just tell you that it is a very touristic bar with bloody stupid security guards and the very famous crab race, where I never won something ....... you can really miss this place out on a visit in Sydney! ........ sorry guys .....

 07-12-03

After this 'small' jolt I had a big luck with the place I found to stay: 10 Thomsom Street - a very nice and quiet street in Darlinghurst. The house is an old terace house, actually the dingiest in the whole street, but hey .... it's cheap and we have an amazing view over sydney skyline!
I am living there with 3 others: Charly & Katie - so to say the landlord and the landlady, and Julien - a french guy, who is pretty cute *grins* ....

 02-12-03

One week was over in Sydney ..... life was going very well, you could have even said that everything was running perfectly - up to this bloody morning.

I've visited Nico in Glebe (Suburb in western Sy ...) .... we had some nice VB's, a good chat and a little smoke. Later, so to say in the morning, I found out a drawback in Sydney, whereat I , actually, would get riled a lot of times in future: the last fucking bus from the most suburbs to the city goes on twelve ..... What's the point on this?
Anyway .... I missed the last bus and decided to walk to my backpackers. Then I learned in a grievous way that Sydney is not Ilmenau, where you can walk wherever and whenever around, because here are some places you should better avoid in the darkness. Now I know ...... but I paid a high price (my whole backpack!) and that's the reason why I don't have a camera anymore and I had a lot of trouble during the last months! May these guys rot in hell!

 30-11-03

.... on my first weekend I went with a group of mostly germans to gerrie beach in the Royal National Park.
I was ready to make my first surf experience! This should become the start of a big career as a surfbabe .... brown skin, blond hair and a cute surfboy besides me ..... ;-)
But then I found out that it is very hard and time-consuming to learn surfing ..... and sometimes it can even hurt you as you can see in the picture! My cheek had a nice meeting with the ground of the ocean and I looked for the next week like a venturous rowdy ..... but it was fun. Unfortunatly I don't have the time to practice this much .... so I gave it up .....

 26-11-03

So then .... first I checked in in footprints backpacker in the heart of Sydney - tried to lie on my bed and felt asleep immediately - fortunatly woke up early enough to meet Enno (nice german guy from Berlin ...) for eating the most famous pies (tasty cakes filled with meat or veggies and as a special they put on top mashed potatoes & peas ..... *yummmy*) in Sydney and maybe even Australia - with a filled belly I went straight home and slept again, I don't know, maybe 13h till the next morning ..... it was amazing how much time I spent in bed in my first week - bloody jetlag!
But when I wasn't sleeping I reconnoiter Sydney and enjoyed the easiegoing backpacker life .... that is just that you meet a lot of freaks from a heap of different countries and some of them you will get to go out for a drink in one of the bars and pubs if you feel like this. So your not this alone even if you're just arrived in this big city .....
.... but after a while it's just enough. You want to have your own room and a so called normal life! Luckily I found a very good place to stay after 3 days of searching, unfortunatly I couldn't move in outright - so I had to hang around a few days more in this fucking backpackers ......

 24-11-03

Lets travel roughly 3 month back in time ....

The day of my departure was very warm and sunny and Germany said with a very nice sunset goodby to me. I felt the whole day a bit numb - I had not really realized that I was on the way to the other side of earth. Even the first days in Sydney this strange feeling didn't dissapear .... but I've heard that's normal ....
Anyway, after 2 nights or 36h hanging around in planes and airports, not getting enough sleep, stupid films and somewhere inbetween 10h time shift - so completely buggered and jetlagged - I arrived in Sydney on the morning of the 26th of November............

 welcome ....

I've done it ..... the website about my life in Sydney is online!
Though it will become an experiment: How to make a great website without the most important resource of digital photos? Luckily many persons own in these days such a nice tool and were so kind to send it to me. Thanks to all those ..... I'm grateful for every picture!
Another thanks goes to my family, who is funding my little adventure in Down Under ....

As everybody has noticed: I try to write in English - first of all for all those people I met here and don't understand any word of german - and on the other side is it a very good practice for my internship report I have to write in english too. Please be aware that there will be some mistakes ...... I'm not sure if I want to be corrected, but you can try it, if it hurts you during the reading to much .....
